In the USA it’s a new law-draft, which will allow the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for licensing fintech companies as banks. This was the right of the Comptroller of the Currency, and as we can think, Brian Brooks, the acting Comptroller does not so happy with this plan.
If two independent organizations could issue the same license, it may lead to an insecure situation. One wants to deny the license, but the other thinks approving may result in regulatory chaos. The USA gets many critics due to its unclear, obsolete, and mostly senseless crypto-related laws. Maybe not without reason.
